How to get more reviews (the right way)
Reviews are the closest thing local businesses have to word of mouth that stays on the record. But Google’s rules are tighter than they used to be, and one wrong ask can get your profile flagged.
Do this
- Ask in person — right after a positive interaction. “If you’re happy with how everything went, a Google review helps us a ton.”
- Send a direct link — use your short Google review URL so there’s no friction. (Find yours at google.com/business → your profile → “Ask for reviews”.)
- Say thank you — reply to every review within a day or two. Keeps your profile active and shows you’re engaged.
Don’t do this
- Offer discounts or freebies in exchange for reviews — Google considers that incentivized and can remove them.
- Ask everyone at once — a sudden spike looks spammy and may trigger a manual review.
- Get into arguments in replies — even if a review is wrong, keep it brief and professional.
The quiet truth: just having 10–15 reviews with replies puts you ahead of most competitors in any local market.
